In conjunction with yesterday's post about the Children's Museum, I want to talk about The National Aviary. If you really wanted to, you could tack on a membership to The National Aviary to your Children's Museum membership. And why not? They are pretty much right next door to each other. The Aviary is only $85 for 2 adults and 2 childrens. Not too bad as it pays for itself in 2 visits!
It's a lot smaller than most of the other museums in the area, and to tell the truth, I'm a bit afraid of it, but it's fascinating. You can go outside to see the penguins up close, or even crawl into the tunnels they made to peek up through their rocks.
They have shows where they bring the birds out to you and talk about them. And there's 2 sections where they fly around free. That's the scary part, but kids love it.
There's even a section where they let you take turns feeding some of the birds during meal times! One of these days, I'll be brave enough to do it.
We haven't taken the kids this year since they're both too active and we had the passes for other places, but we'll probably go once the weather turns. It's a much more laid back trip than all the walking at the zoo and running around that the Children's Museum.
